Quorum1 was founded because traditional consulting is broken.

We, the founders, loved the consulting lifestyle: the ability to set your own hours, prioritize your own learning, follow your own curiosities & passions, be your own boss. In particular we valued the joy that comes from doing client work at the highest caliber.

Yet what we were seeing in the consulting ecosystem was both frustrating and, sometimes, predatory. Low quality shops doing low-quality work; over-performing boutiques struggling to compete with the massive marketing machines of giant firms; “talent marketplaces” turning people into shopping cart items; and disparate, disillusioned people whose professional growth had been halted, stunted, or hampered by all of the above.

We knew we could do more, and that we needed an alternative: a consultancy built for individuals and small teams without the drawbacks and bureaucratic overhead of traditional consulting.

Building a new business model was critical, beginning with these core concepts:

  • Flexibility in way that’s both fair and empowering

  • Professional support in the form of a high-learning, people-centric environment

  • Authenticity and trust, backed by operational transparency

  • Fun, in the form of teamwork, personal connection, kindness, and growth

We found further inspiration in the tradition of worker-owned co-ops; the idealism of the Open-Source movement; and the emergent innovation of DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations).

What you’ll find at Quorum1 today is the culmination of the study and iteration of all of these sources of inspiration, into something we call the Quorum Model. Think of it as a living experiment and a commitment to continue iterating and inviting new ideas while we all work toward achieving the work structure that aligns best with our human goals and values.

We’re building the most badass consultancy that has ever been, and creating a better way to work while we’re at it.

As we invest in and refine the Quorum Model, we get that much closer to our dream of expanding professional opportunity for workers everywhere. We want to build this thing and start getting it into the hands of other worker collectives, platform co-ops, DAOs and other community-centric organizations.

We have the potential to go beyond just consulting. Yes we want this to be the most effective consultancy that’s ever been, and we’re doing that every day by delivering high-quality work to clients and pushing the boundary of professional accomplishment ever further.

But the future awaits. The future where “work” is a force for good in the world; where organizations generate global social value AND profits, not because they’re forced to but because it’s built directly into the operating model.
